ECO RESTORATION OF PALAR RIVER BASIN AT KAIWARA RCB SIGNS MOU WITH AOL

January 10, 2021 marked the beginning of RCB’s (perhaps Rotary’s) most ambitious project in the area of Environment. Following several months of detailed planning and multiple site visits, with active cooperation of the Environment Foundation at District level, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Art of Living to undertake a massive Eco Restoration of the Upper Palar basin. This long term project starts with the planting of 50,000 saplings in a rocky rugged terrain in the hillocks at the origin of River Palar at Kaiwara – in Chikkaballapur District, 50 km from Bangalore. The preparatory steps of digging pits and trenches, making boulder checks and gully checks will start soon, followed by plantation of seedlings and saplings during Monsoons later this year.

There is a lot more to this project. Watch out for this space in the following issues to learn how this initiative will provide a tree cover to 300 acres, recharge the groundwater, rejuvenate the river now partially run dry, bring prosperity to farmers downstream and have a happy spin off that would impact hundreds of lives and livelihoods. All the best to team RCB Palar Eco Restoration!
