Vivek Prabhu, joined the Rotary movement in 1994. He is a very keen Rotarian and is often seen to be taking active part in all the activities of the club. He has served the club in various capacities starting from co-chairman in the first few years of joining and as Chairman of various committees almost every year after that. He served on the Board in various capacities, Joint Secretary, as Director-International Service several times, Sergeant–At-Arms, Secretary and as Vice President.

He has keen interest in serving the cause of mass education and vocational service. He also supports the cause of the physical and mentally challenged and the aged. The club magazine- The Rotator is another area of keen interest, topped off by fellowship both within the club and on the international level. He is passionate about raising funds for the Rotary Foundation and has been instrumental in convincing almost 100 members of the club to become PHFs and has earned a reputation a s an expert of Global Grant Management. He is a good team player and loves to work in a group and enthuses and encourages all round participation.

His lasting legacy as the President during the year 2018-19 is characterized by establishing a robust governance structure based on the six governing principles of POSITIVE ATTITUDE, INVOLVED PARTICIPATION, BETTER COMMUNICATION, EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATION, DEPLOYMENT OF TECHNOLOGY and TOTAL TRANSPARENCY. These principles helped the club in effectively carrying out projects it had envisaged right in the beginning of the year in all the avenues of service.

Born in Udupi in 1956, Vivek had his early schooling in Bangalore and later passed out of the premium institution, Sainik School, Bijapur. A textile Engineer by qualification, he now heads a mid-sized family business/industry group called Priyafil Group, engaged in the manufacture of Synthetic Technical Textiles used in various applications ranging from agriculture, floriculture, aquaculture, household, automobile and bulk packaging. The groups’ products are marketed all over India and exported to Europe, Middle East and the US. He also serves the industry’s cause as the President of KMTMA and is an active member of other related industry and trade associations, such as AIFTMA, AIPMA, ITTA, KASSIA and FKCCI.

Vivek is married to Shalini, a doctorate in Kannada literature, who ably supports him in all his endeavours at home, office and as a Rotary Anne. She also serves as a regional panel member on the Central Film censor Board. They have three children, two daughters and a son. Their first-born Priyadarshini is a HR executive with the Pharma giant Eli Lilly and is married to Anirudha Nayak, a legal consultant. Their second daughter Yashaswini is a Post Graduate in Computer Science and is with Comcast as a Senior Software Developer. She is married to Ratan Kamath also an engineer and an executive with SIG group and are settled in Philadelphia, USA.  Vivek’s and Shalini’s son Varun has a Masters in Strategic Design Management and works with GE Transportation in Chicago.
