Gift A Tab: Bringing the Digital Age to RBV Students

On December 29, in a crisp and well-conducted event, RCB distributed Tabs with Pre-loaded subjects to 45 Students of Classes 9 and 10 of Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya. The Chief Guest of the event was Shri Anbukkumar, IAS, Commissioner for Public Instruction, GOK. The Guests of Honour were: Shri. Prakash, Block Education Officer Bangalore South, Shri. K. G. Raghuchandra from DDPI office, Shri Ranganath and Smt Chandrakala from the Block Education Office. The visitors were taken around the school premises by the President RCB Rtn. Vincent Raj, School Chairman Rtn. Mohan Gurjar, Secretary Rtn. Gowri Oza and Headmistress RBV Smt. T. Sudha, along with the school team accompanied by Director Community Services Rtn. M C Dinesh and other Rotarians. Also present were Rtn Shrichand Rajpal of Shri Sai Spiritual Trust, President-Elect Rtn Girish, Rtn. Sreenathan, Rtn K.L. Ramesh, Rtn. Ramakrishna Mudugal, Rtn. Prasad Parasuraman and his mother Smt. Rajeswari Parasuraman, Retd. Senior Teacher and Principal.

The Program started sharp at 11.30 am as per the schedule, with students Pratibha, Kaveri, Smita and Abhinaya singing a beautiful and melodic ode to Lord Ganesha. Headmistress Smt. Sudha T then introduced the guests and Rotarians to the students and teachers. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were then honoured with a shawl and bouquet by the President and Secretary RCB. After this, each student was called to the dais and handed over his/her neatly packed Lenovo Tab by the Chief Guest Shri Anbu Kumar. The excitement and joy of receiving a brand new branded tab were very visible on the faces of the students. It surely was an unexpected gift – very much welcome after the gloomy year that they have all had to endure with resources and incomes in many homes dwindling and drying away due to the hardships that COVID has put them through.

In his speech, Chief Guest Shri Anbu Kumar gently brought back the children to the real world through an anecdote. He reminded them that tools such as these were only enablers. Their success could only be guaranteed by their hard work and perseverance. He underscored the value of education by alluding it to coloured eye-glasses which could change the way we see the world instead of trying to colour the whole world in our preferred hues.

The expectation and excitement of the students were heightened when Rtn. Gurunagesh, Rotary District Chair of the Literacy program, demonstrated the operation of the Tab and showed the app through which they could access the preloaded study material. Headmistress Smt T Sudha thanked the President, Secretary and the Community Service Director and Rotary Members for this generous nurturant initiative which would rehaul the dampened gusto of the students and drive them to achieve fantastic academic results in the new year.
